Respected cadre and academic remembered

Ndlovu described as outstanding academic

THE ANC in Musa Dladla Region must always strive for unity in honour of its founding leader, the late Prof Aaron Mseshi Ndlovu.

This was the sentiment of the ANC Provincial Deputy Chairperson Willies Mchunu, delivering a memorial lecture on the life of the ANC stalwart on Tuesday at the Empangeni Civic Centre.

He hailed Ndlovu for his bravery in ensuring that the ANC was visible in the region under difficult circumstances.

‘We needed a person of his calibre to get this region moving.

‘He worked against all odds to make the ANC what it is today. It is gratifying to see that this region is now the second biggest in the province after eThekwini,’ said Mchunu.

‘While we celebrate the increase of membership, we must also increase quality. We need to transform our quantity to quality.

‘When we formed this region, the conditions were different from those in Pietermaritzburg and eThekwini. Here we started everything from scratch and it was difficult. We were attacked and some were killed.

‘We wish to thank his family for never giving up on the ANC, despite facing several attacks when they were in eSikhaleni.’

Accomplished academic

Mchunu challenged the ANC Youth League and other youth formations to draw inspiration from Ndlovu.

‘He was not only an outstanding leader, but an accomplished academic who ended up heading Mangosuthu Technikon. He transformed that institution into the Mangosuthu University of Technology.’

Mchunu commended the leadership of the Musa Dladla Region for embarking on an Siyabakhumbula programme.

‘You must never abandon these programmes, as they are part of writing our history.

‘We must know about these comrades who never sold out.’

Mchunu also challenged the Musa Dladla Regional leadership to push for what he described as Thulani Mashaba’s dream of creating a metropolitan municipality in the region.
