Zululand SPCAs again in desperate need

Without support from loyal supporters, the SPCAs cannot provide essential services for the region's animals

FOLLOWING the hugely successful food drive for the Zululand SPCAs earlier this year, they are once again battling to feed the high number of animals coming through their doors on a daily basis.

Richards Bay SPCA on Monday reported almost empty shelves in their food storeroom, while Empangeni is having to, for the first time in months, buy food after finishing donated supplies.

‘While we do everything we can to raise funds, such as our month-end open days which are our biggest income generators, we still cannot survive without the much-needed donations of food and money,’ said Richards Bay SPCA Chairperson, Sarel Small.

While municipal funding in the form of a grant in aid is on the cards, this has not been finalised and the SPCAs are yet to benefit.

With the huge number of dogs and cats coming through the doors of Empangeni, eShowe and Richards Bay SPCAs, the NPOs’ financial battle is ongoing and they cannot survive without the help of loyal supporters.

Food items, including dog and cat, puppy and kitten soft and hard food, as well as chicken feed, blankets, bowls, dog leads and toys can be dropped off either at the SPCAs’ offices or at various drop-off points in the region.

Alternatively, money can be deposited into their bank accounts:

Richards Bay SPCA: Nedbank current account, account number 1302024825, branch code 130230.

Empangeni: First National Bank, branch code 220130, account name ZSPCA, account number 52166099097.

eShowe: Standard Bank, account number 164795383, branch code 057630.
