ONE year after the murder and attempted murder of a young couple in Pongola, the mastermind behind the gruesome crime has been tried and sentenced to life behind bars.
Bhekuyise Magagula (26) was sentenced to life in prison for murder in the Pongola Regional Court last week, plus 30 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and a further 10 years for attempted murder.
Magagula hired a hit man to assassinate his former girlfriend and her boyfriend in the Magudu area near Pongola.
The couple was accosted by an unknown man who robbed them of their valuables and fired several shots.
Thabiso Masuku (27) was fatally wounded while his girlfriend sustained critical injuries.
She was taken to hospital where she made a full recovery.
The hit man remains on the loose.
