Young artist auctions painting for wildlife protection

Kate Brits' exquisite artwork will be auctioned this weekend at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

KATE Brits, an extremely talented young artist from Richards Bay, is set to have one of her paintings auctioned at Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) on Saturday.

Kate’s painting, which depicts a White Rhino mother and calf cooling off at an iMfolozi waterhole on a hot summer’s day, will be auctioned along with one by fellow artist Olivia Maritz.

After Kate was given a photograph of the White Rhino mother and calf, the 12-year-old wildlife enthusiast’s interpretation of the scene, resulting in this incredible painting, prompted the idea of donating the painting to the protection of wildlife.

Both Kate’s rhino painting and Olivia’s wild dog painting will be auctioned at HiP’s Centenary Centre after Saturday’s annual Old Mutual Wild Series iMfolozi Challenge MTB.

All proceeds raised from the auction will go towards rhino anti-poaching efforts.
