Motorists warned against remote jamming

SAPS advises motorists to physically check their car door is locked before walking away

RICHARDS Bay residents have been urged by CPI (Community Protection Initiative) Richards Bay to be vigilant when parking and leaving their cars, after a remote jamming incident led to the theft of a handbag out of a vehicle in Dollar Drive .

The victim of the incident alleges the perpetrator was driving a pale blue Audi with a GP registration number.

Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, urged the public to be vigilant when parking in car parks in and around the city.

‘Motorists should, after locking their vehicles, test the driver’s door to make sure the door is locked,’ she said.

‘They must also remember not to leave valuables in plain sight.’

In the event that someone’s remote locking is jammed, they are advised to make a scene in the parking lot.

This serves to show the culprit that the motorist is aware of what is going on, causing the culprit to leave the scene.
