Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife CEO resigns

Chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Board Zwile Zulu expressed his appreciation to Dr David Mabunda following his resignation

EZEMVELO KZN Wildlife CEO, Dr David Mabunda has resigned, effective from Monday.

The announcement was made by the Chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Board, Zwile Zulu, in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.

Sthabiso Chiliza has been appointed as the Acting CEO until further notice.

Zulu said the board was grateful that Mabunda was willing to answer their call when they needed him.

‘I am thankful for all your efforts in providing direction to this organisation.

‘If opportunities avail themselves for us to tap into your experience, we shall gladly do so.

‘I wish you well in your new endeavour and trust that you will continue to help our country improve the skills of all South Africans,’ Zulu said.

Dr Mabunda took over the reigns at Ezemvelo on 12 November, 2014.

The initial appointment was for six months, which was extended for another six months.

Discipline, the normalisation of relations with organised labour and refocusing the organisation on its core mandate of biodiversity conservation and improve expenditure levels, were among the key issues included in his mandate.

He said most of the set objectives were achieved.

Dr Mabunda said he was inaugurated as an Honorary Professor in natural sciences on 3 July after his nomination by the Oxford Academic Union.

His new role requires him to operate in an academic environment or research institution such as the CSIR, NRF,

Council for Geoscience, SANBI or similar institution whose primary objective is research development in different fields.
