Ngwelezana Hall nearing completion

City embarks on Siyahlola Programme

CITY of uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Cllr Silondile Mkhize has expressed her satisfaction on the progress made by contractors who were tasked to renovate the Ngwelezana Community Hall.

Speaking during the municipality’s Siyahlola Programme, held on Friday in Ngwelezana, Mkhize said she was hopeful that the newly revamped community hall will now be able to cater for the ever growing population of Ngwelezana, unlike in the past.

‘As part of celebrating the life of former statesman Nelson Mandela, we saw the need to check on the progress made on some of the projects we are undertaking as a city, and this is one of them.

‘It is gratifying to see that this project is almost 100% complete. The community has been patiently waiting for this project to be completed. We wish to thank them for their patience. The rebuilding of this community hall was initially budgeted for R2,7-million, but as time progressed the budget grew to R5,7-million. The roofing part of this hall took a bigger slice of the budget.

Completing the final touches at the Ngwelezana Community Hall are Mbali Hlekwayo (contractor), Youth Council Chairperson Sphelele ‘Wiwi’ Gumede, Samke Gumede (contractor) and Batho Majola (Ward committee member)

‘We have been assured by Daily Double Trading Contractors, who are responsible for the hall’s revamp, that it now has a capacity for more than 500 people, with more ablution facilities, boardrooms, offices, storerooms and change rooms.

‘The beauty of this hall is that it will now be a design which we will follow when building similar structures – as you can see it is state of the art.

‘It will be used for various purposes and is access friendly to people with disabilities,’ added Mkhize who was accompanied by the city’s councillors, Speaker Cllr Mfundo Mthenjana, city officials and contractor Sipho Mathe.

The city’s leadership also proceeded to Lot 63 Taxi Rank and to eSikhaleni Fire Station.
