Hijacked vehicle swiftly tracked and recovered

Reports indicate that a 20-year-old Empangeni resident was visiting a friend in Fiddlewood Drive when he was approached by a gun wielding suspect

QUICK work by members of Empangeni SAPS and Ctrack Vehicle Tracking led to the recovery of a blue VW Polo GTI on Wednesday night after the occupant had been hijacked.

Reports indicate that a 20-year-old Empangeni resident was visiting a friend in Fiddlewood Drive when he was approached by a gun wielding suspect.

An anonymous source told the ZO the victim had entered his vehicle, which was parked on the driveway, when a suspect ran up to his window and held him at gunpoint.

The suspect then pulled the victim out of the vehicle and demanded the keys.

The vehicle, which was fitted with a tracking device, was half an hour later recovered when it was found abandoned in dense forest in Dondotha.

The source said that the tyres of the vehicle had been removed but no suspects were found on scene.

‘I must commend the quick response of all the members involved in the tracking and recovery of the vehicle,’ said the source.

No arrests have been made thus far and police are investigating a case of carjacking.
