Zulu King applauds local entrepreneur’s community development project
Government alone cannot drive community development says King Zwelithini
THE fight against unemployment, poverty and inequality is not the responsibility of the government alone.
‘All of us as citizens should play our part.’
This was the sentiment of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini while officiating at the opening of Themba Fakazi Multipurpose Centre in Nhlanzini, near Mbonambi, last week.
The King praised local entrepreneur Dr Themba Fakazi for assisting the government in its quest to better the lives of the people.
‘We can’t expect the government to do everything for us. It is not possible, but with initiatives such as this, we can do more to improve the lives of our people.
‘We need more people like Fakazi, who always put their communities first.
‘He is living proof that rural communities should take the lead in developing their areas instead of just expecting outsiders to do so. We need to take rural development seriously.
‘Centres such as these should serve as fountains for spiritual guidance for the youth that is vulnerable and most targeted by social ills. As the community we need to own such projects and guard against turning it into white elephants,’ King Zwelithini said.

Fakazi said the multipurpose centre aims to empower local communities by creating jobs.
‘This centre will cater for elderly women who will be housed at the Sphiwe Ngubane Hall. There will also be space for fresh produce, a bakery, sewing initiatives and offices.
This centre is part of my contribution to plough back my profit to my community. It was built by the Themba Fakazi Foundation. There was no government involvement in this project, that’s why I decided to hand it over to His Majesty for the official opening.
‘I also with to thank the local Fraternal Ministers and taxi association for the role they played in making this project a reality,’ he said.
