AWOL campers make a difference

AWOL – A Work Of Love was a great success

A GROUP of energetic and motivated teenagers touched the lives of many throughout the city during the annual AWOL (A Work of Love) camp held at St Catherine’s School in Empangeni.

This youth camp was aimed at building relationships between teenagers, the community in which they live and local Christian churches, spreading God’s love to those in need.

Destroying illegal abortion posters was one of the teens’ missions

Their mission was to be the hands and feet of God and demonstrate His love in a practical way, while having fun and making memories with old and new friends.

This year, there were 110 campers and 120 volunteers making an impact on various hospitals, NGOs, schools, streets, retirement villages and municipal departments.

Volunteers interacted with many organisations while cleaning up the City and giving some neglected areas a facelift.

‘It was a privilege to see the many gifts of these volunteers flowing together as well as new relationships being built around this common cause,’ said AWOL Coordinator, Karl Röttcher.

This year’s programme reached a total of 20 000 hours worked in communities since the AWOL project started in 2009.

‘This has been such a wonderful opportunity for the teenagers to share God’s love that is in their hearts,’

Röttcher thanked all sponsors for making AWOL a great success and looks forward to ongoing support for 2018.

Music and sports was also part of the camp
