HAVE you saved the date for the fifth annual Zululand Observer ‘Hang Out With Madiba’ event?
The date to fill the washing lines is Tuesday, 18 July.
The Zululand Observer/DICE (Do I Care Enough?) initiative has enjoyed overwhelming support since its inception.
‘Hang Out With Madiba’ is a fantastic opportunity for businesses and individuals to get on board with community outreach in a very tangible way,’ said Zululand Observer Editor Dave Savides, who launched the concept.
Washing lines are erected at the ZO offices in Empangeni and Richards Bay, as well as supporting businesses.
The Richards Bay washing line will be strung up in front of the Civic Centre (adjacent to East Central Arterial), while the Empangeni line will be up at the ZO offices in Baines Street – and all are invited to bring their old clothes or blankets (toys too, if the kids won’t notice) to hang them on the line between the hours of 7am and noon.
The clothes are then distributed to Zululand’s needy by DICE and uThungulu Disaster Management.
The City of uMhlathuze, Empangeni and Richards Bay Rotary and Roteract Clubs are also playing a major part.
‘For the past four years the support has been really fantastic,’ Savides said.
‘We would like to issue a challenge to everyone so that this year we can reach a new milestone.
‘The clothes go to people who really need them and great care is taken to ensure needy causes are identified and supported.’
Please also bring your own clothes pegs.
Companies are also welcome to put up their own lines and drop the clothing off at the ZO afterwards for distribution.
