uMfolozi College forges stronger partnerships with iLembe Chamber
uMfolozi TVET College principal, Sam Zungu expressed words of joy after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the iLembe Chamber of Commerce
THE uMfolozi TVET College principal, Sam Zungu expressed words of joy after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the iLembe Chamber of Commerce in Ballito on Thursday, 15 June.
‘We are grateful as this is a great milestone for the college and a great response to the National Development Plan. We are now observing the fruits of the partnership with the German associates.
We look forward to this kind of partnership growing stronger through working with industry and commerce,’ said Zungu.
This partnership is as a result of a study tour to Germany in 2016, looking at that country’s renowned dual vocational education and training model.
It is understood the MoU was borne out of the college’s intention to make TVET education more responsive to the needs of all stakeholders, especially business, thereby ensuring that it makes a meaningful contribution to addressing national socioeconomic goals.
In his speech, iLembe Chamber President Xolani Gumede expressed his gratitude for the partnership, saying ‘We pride ourselves for pioneering this deal and to have broken new ground. The partnership speaks to our mandate for becoming more relevant. We are grateful for the college’s role and hope to have a long lasting relationship.’

The agreement will, among others, facilitate and streamline the placement of students from the college, on internships and apprenticeships with chamber members.
The two parties also agreed to collaborate to ensure the college curricula is adapted to meet industry needs, current and long term, as well as ensuring course content is more practical and relevant to industry.
A further area of collaboration is the entrepreneurial support and development of students and business linkages.
The college committed itself to also support the chamber in the education and innovation activities of the iSithebe Business Cluster, established for the iSithebe Business Park in Mandeni.
