MORE than 300 schoolgirls at Isiphephelo High School in KwaMbonambi received sanitary pads on Tuesday.
The handover is part of the Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls programme ‘which strives to help keep young girls in school during their monthly cycles’.
Isiphephelo High School learner support educator Slindile Ntuli said being a ‘no-fee school and situated in a poverty stricken area, girls can’t afford sanitary pads and as a result miss out on school’ The foundation has been handing out sanitary pads to schoolgirls since 2014.

Miss Zululand 2017 finalist Taahirah Achmat attended the handover.
‘I feel strongly about empowering women because they don’t receive enough support. It is our collective responsibility to ensure we empower them from a young age, and that includes keeping these young girls in school.’
