Long prison term for Melmoth rapist

In September last year a 14-year-old girl was raped by the accused at Obuka outside Melmoth

A 30-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 36 years imprisonment for rape by the Melmoth Regional Court on Monday.

In September last year a 14-year-old girl was raped by the accused at Obuka outside Melmoth.

The accused was with the victim at their homestead when he instructed her to make a coffee for him and bring it to his room.

When she did so he grabbed and raped her, and instructed her to not tell anyone.

He raped her on numerous other occasions.

The victim eventually reported the incident to her mother and the police were contacted.

A case of rape was opened and the docket was transferred to the Melmoth Family Violence, Child Protection and

Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

The arrest of the accused followed shortly afterwards.
