THREE local dancers relished the opportunity they were granted as members of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket cheerleading team.

Kirsty and Kelly Motzouris, together with Dorothy Esterhuizen, were chosen to be cheerleaders for the duration of the IPL tournament.

Kirsty said it was an opportunity unlike any other.

‘Getting the opportunity to cheer and be a part of the IPL tournament buzz was such a privilege.

‘I am not exaggerating when I say I felt like the biggest celebrity around.

‘The atmosphere towards the build-up of the games and during each match was indescribable.

‘Even when walking the streets of India, we would be surrounded and followed by fans trying to get the sneaky selfies with us.

‘When Mumbai Indians, the team I represented, won the tournament, we had the privilege of meeting the players and owner,’ she said.

Her sentiments were echoed by twin sister Kelly, who noted that travelling through India was a unique and incredible experience.

‘It is such a diverse and interesting country. Every city was completely different.

‘One thing that never changed was the locals’ spirituality. Their religion means so much to them and it was so special seeing their loyalty to their gods.

‘I returned to South Africa with so much knowledge and appreciation for what I have.’

Dorothy said while she enjoyed the experience, she couldn’t help but miss home.

‘I am truly grateful for the opportunity for being able to see so many cities in India.

‘Each city is beautiful in its own way, but Mumbai will always be dear to my heart seeing that it was our home city.

‘ Learning about their culture and seeing all the different temples was the most interesting experience I have had.’
