One female student was transported to hospital after sustaining a 'gaping wound to her face' said a witness at the scene

TRAFFIC came to a halt on the road running past eSikhaleni TVET College this morning after students embarked on a strike, demanding the college pay their NSFAS allowances.

After the arrival of SAPS a standoff ensued, which resulted in a number of students sustaining minor injuries following the release of several stun grenades by police members.

One female student was transported to hospital after sustaining a ‘gaping wound to her face’ said a witness at the scene.

At present, the students are still chanting, burning tyres and wood in front of the College entrance and in the road.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, or to avoid the area if possible.
