Life sentences for Empangeni cop killers

'Criminals should think twice before they open fire on police' - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula

MINISTER of Police Fikile Mbalula has welcomed the conviction of four accused involved in a robbery in which Empangeni policema, Sergeant Niren ‘Foxy’ Ramsaroop (40), was killed in 2015.

Speaking to the ZO this week after judgment was handed down at the Durban High Court last Friday, Mbalula said this should act as a stern warning for criminals.

‘Obviously it is a good sentence and it should act as a deterrent to criminals who should think twice before they open fire on police.

‘It is sad that the officer in question had to lose his life while performing his duties, but I am glad to hear that the criminals involved faced the full wrath of our justice system.’

Thuthukani Mbonambi (43) and Senzo Ndlovu (32) were sentenced to life imprisonment each.
