Injured Richards Bay dog needs community’s assistance

Snowy needs your help to get the emergency surgery he desperately needs

ON behalf of a badly injured dog, Richards Bay SPCA is appealing to all animal lovers in a position to donate towards the animal’s emergency surgery.

Snowy is a one-year-old mixed breed whose devoted and distraught owners rushed him to the SPCA on Wednesday after he was hit by a car.

His left front leg is badly broken and the nerves are so severly damaged a veterinarian confirmed the only option is to amputate the limb it as it will never recover.

Neither Snowy’s owners nor the SPCA can afford to pay for the procedure which will cost between R8 000 and R10 000.

‘We did ask the vet if there was any way that Snowy’s leg could be saved but they said that would be a long, arduous and painful rehabilitation with no guarantees,’ said Wynand Strauss, Richards Bay SPCA Inspector.

Snowy is being kept on strong painkillers at the SPCA but is very uncomfortable and needs the surgery as a matter of urgency.

‘Complications, like infections, will set in if Snowy is not able to undergo surgery within a day or two, so it really is an emergency situation as he has already been in this state for two days,’ said Strauss.

Those willing and able to donate towards Snowy’s operation can deposit money into Richards Bay SPCA’s bank account: Nedbank current account, account number: 1302024825, branch code: 130230, reference: Snowy.
