A MAN has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the Mtunzini Magistrate’s Court after being found guilty of raping his 10-year-old granddaughter.
The court heard that in December last year the young victim was playing with her sister in the Sabeka Reserve near Mtunzini.
Both their grandfathers were present at home while their grandmother was attending a funeral at Dokodweni Reserve and the mother was at work in Mandeni.
According to the victim’s statement, one of her grandfathers called her to bring him sorghum beer, which she did.
When returning to continue playing with her sister, her other grandfather also called her.
He asked the girl to undress, but she refused. He then grabbed the victim and raped her.
The sister witnessed the incident and the girls were threatened if they told anyone. He promised to give them R100.
The following day the victim’s sister told her grandmother about the incident and the mother opened a case at the Mtunzini Police Station.
