A CONVICTED rapist was handed a 25 year sentence at the Empangeni Regional Court on Friday.
Sbusiso M Mthiyane (25) was found guilty of raping his 11-year-old neighbour.
According to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit who took charge of the investigation into the case, in June last year the 11-year-old victim was at home when Mthiyane called her to his room, where he raped her.
He then threatened the victim not to tell anyone, but she told her mother and the incident was reported at the Empangeni SAPS and transferred to FCS for further investigation.
A few days later Mthiyane was arrested and held in custody during the trial.
He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for the rape and five years for displaying pornography to the child.
Both sentences are to run concurrently.
