Five fatalities in weekend accidents
Two serious weekend accidents in Empangeni, in which five people were killed, are being investigated by police
ONE person was killed on Sunday and 17 others injured when a small Hyundai flat-bed truck carrying the passengers overturned outside Qalakabusha Prison.
The incident occurred at about 3pm when the driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle and it rolled.
Numerous emergency services arrived on the scene and found one passenger already deceased, two critical, four serious and the rest with relatively minor injuries.
The critical and seriously injured patients were taken to Ngwelezana Hospital, while those with minor injuries were taken to Ngwelezana Clinic.

Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident.
In another accident on Saturday night, four people were killed, also on the R34, near Matshana, when a taxi rear-ended a stationery truck’s trailer.
Three people died at the scene, while a fourth died later in hospital.
Six people were critically injured and a further eight sustained moderate injuries.
