Another award for iSimangaliso

iSimangaliso is in the top 4% in KwaZulu-Natal and the top 6% in South Africa of public sector agencies and departments

THE South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) has recognised iSimangaliso Wetland Park as one of four KZN-based public sector bodies to have received clean audits over five consecutive years at their inaugural Public Sector Excellence Awards held in Durban on Wednesday.

iSimangaliso is in the top 4% in KwaZulu-Natal and the top 6% in South Africa of public sector agencies and departments.

‘The awards are SAICA’s way of recognising departments and public entities that deliver good audit outcomes, as we believe that clean administration is a critical success factor in achieving sustainable service delivery,’ said SAICA’s Regional Executive, Naeem Asvat.

Added to this achievement, the Auditor General of South Africa has given iSimangaliso 14 consecutive unqualified audits, one for every year of operation.

This is a significant achievement in the Park’s remarkable story of people-centred conservation and transformation.

iSimangaliso was established in 2000 to manage South Africa’s first World Heritage Site.

It has improved the quality of life of the community and created employment for 8 000 people, at the same time protecting one of the globe’s most precious treasures.

‘The award is a testament to what is possible when commitment, diligence and passion for the work that we do in service of the South African people come together. ‘iSimangaliso stands out not only for its financial excellence, but also its significant people and conservation achievements,’ said the

Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa.

The award follows this month’s ‘KfW-Bernhard-Grzimek-Preis’ (Germany) award to CEO Andrew Zaloumis for iSimangaliso’s ground-breaking work in people-centred conservation in one of South Africa’s poorest regions.
