Another Sodwana dive death under investigation

A HIGHLY-EXPERIENCED Japanese diver died during a four-hour dive at Sodwana Bay on Thursday afternoon.

According to a joint statement released by iSimangaliso, IANTD (International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers) Japan and Triton Dive Charters, 55-year-old professional diver Mitsuyoshi Tanaka died while diving at Jesser Canyon in the Sodwana Bay section of iSimangaliso.

The former military dive trainer was the senior diver on a month-long conservation filming expedition.

Sources close to the ZO said that Tanaka, along with his fellow Japanese divers, flew in their own equipment and on the day were using mixed gasses and re-breathers.

The expedition had been filming the wonders of oceans to promote conservation and protection of especially the rare coelacanths through documentaries to be flighted internationally.
