Feral dogs captured in Empangeni, safe at SPCA
Numerous sightings of the 'Durnford duo' were reported to Empangeni SPCA by concerned members of the public
AFTER receiving numerous reports of two apparent feral dogs living in Empangeni’s Durnford Park, the Empangeni SPCA, together with CROW (Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife)
Empangeni depot, set about the difficult task of capturing them.
The medium-sized dogs, one brown and white and the other black, were petrified of anyone getting close to them, so Irene Liversage of the Empangeni CROW depot dedicated a few days of her time to getting as close to the dogs as she could and laying pieces of meat out for them.
Her patience eventually paid off.
One of the dogs was captured last Thursday and the other last Friday, just in time to enjoy a dry, warm shelter before last weekend’s torrential rains.

The Durnford duo is now in safe keeping at the Empangeni SPCA where they are being fed healthy, nourishing food.
‘We want to thank the public who reported these dogs to us and for the concern they showed towards these animals,’ said Empangeni SPCA’s Debbie Cross.
Visibly nervous, the dogs ducked for the cover of their shelter when we arrived and would not allow themselves to be photographed.
Once settled down, the Empangeni SPCA will assess and rehabilitate them.
