Four Isikebhe community members in court for kidnapping

The accused were arrested during a roadblock along the R34 near Empangeni last week Friday

FOUR Isikebhe community members accused of kidnapping will reappear in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for a bail application.

The suspects, believed to be part of an anti-stock theft group, appeared in court on Tuesday and the case was postponed to allow for further investigation.

The accused were arrested during a roadblock along the R34 near Empangeni last week Friday.

‘As the police stopped their vehicle, one of the occupants started screaming, asking for help from the police,’ KZN police spokesperson, Lt-Colonel Thulani Zwane, said.

Zwane said the victim reported that he was kidnapped from Empangeni by the Isikebhe members.

The victim had been accused of being involved in the stealing of livestock in the area.

A case of kidnapping was opened at the Empangeni police station.

Acting KZN Police Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, condemned the incident and warned people against taking the law into their own hands.

‘Those involved in such crimes will be prosecuted,’ he said.
