UPDATE: Richards Bay Port protesters case postponed

Yesterday contractors bulldozed down infrastructure and rolled a police vehicle with a digger bin at the Newark Road main entrance

THE case involving the 13 suspects arrested yesterday during the Richards Bay port protests, has been postponed to tomorrow (Thursday).

They face charges at this stage of malicious damage to property.

Yesterday contractors bulldozed down infrastructure and rolled a police vehicle with a digger bin at the Newark Road main entrance as protests turned violent, with police firing a number of shots in an attempt to stop the chaos.

Contractors are said to be angered over the fact that some have been contract workers for up to seven years and want Transnet to employ them directly.
