Empangeni taxi rank upgrade almost complete

The Empangeni taxi rank will be completed by end of May

TAXI commuters travelling between Empangeni, eSikhaleni and Ngwelezana will soon take their transportation in a more luxury environment.

According to the uMhlathuze Municipality construction is almost complete at the Empangeni Lot 63 taxi rank. The upgrade process started last year.

This project is managed by Mkhadi Trading, a company owned by young women.

‘The city is excited to report that the reconstruction of the state-of-the-art taxi rank is almost complete. Walls, ablution facilities and trading stalls are virtually completed,’ said the city Communications Manager Mdu Ncalane.

Contractors are hard at work to ensure the work is completed by the end of May

‘These are proud moments for commuters, taxi operators and small businesses who will now have a professional and secure facility to conduct their business.’

According to Ncalane, the contractor will now install roofs to cover the rank and do a few last touch-ups before handing the facility over to the city.

The rank is expected to be officially opened at the end of May as per the project plan.

Lot 63 is situated between Power Spar and the Shoprite Centre and is used by thousands of commuters from eNseleni, eSikhaleni and Ngwelezana daily.

The ablution facilities have also been upgraded
