26 years in prison for rape and robbery

ACTING KZN Police Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa has commended police for the arrest and prosecution of a 32-year-old Zululand man who has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for rape and robbery.

Joseph Mlondo (32) was sentenced in the Empangeni Regional Court on Wednesday for raping a woman and robbing another in the Mabhuyeni area in August last year.

‘Mlondo accosted two women while they were sleeping in their home, robbed one victim of her cellphone and raped the other, threatening them with a firearm,’ Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said in a statement.

He was arrested a day after a case of rape and robbery was opened at the Empangeni police station.

Mlondo was found in possession of the cellphone taken during the incident.

He has been sentenced to 18 years for rape and eight years for possession of stolen property.
