Richards Bay SAPS takes anti-drugs message to local schools

Drug awareness campaign in full swing

RICHARDS Bay learners are the target of the SAPS’ latest drug awareness campaign as police officers attempt to curb or at least reduce drug abuse in the area.

In recent weeks, Richards Bay police officers have visited numerous schools, both primary and secondary, to deliver their anti-drugs message.

‘We are educating school children on drug and substance abuse, the negative effects of drugs and the long-term damage drugs do to the organs,’ said Richards Bay SAPS Communications Officer

Captain Debbie Ferreira. The team on Thursday morning visited Betesda Independent School in Alton, where learners took the anti-drugs message very seriously.

Substance abuse, and drugs in particular, is becoming a major problem in Richards Bay, with drugs easily available to anyone regardless of age.
