Attempted murder case of KwaMsane municipal councillor postponed

The two accused were meant to appear in the Empangeni Regional Court last week

THE case involving two brothers accused of the attempted murder of a KwaMsane municipal councillor, will have to undergo further investigation before they can appear in court.

The two accused were meant to appear in the Empangeni Regional Court last week, but the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the court did not place the case on the roll as the prosecutor involved instructed that further investigations needed to be conducted before the accused can take the stand.

The Provincial Task Team, assisted by the Empangeni K9 Unit and the National Intervention Unit, recently conducted an operation at Mfekayi Reserve, Hluhluwe,
where the brothers were found in possession of two 9mm pistols with 18 live rounds of ammunition.

The suspects have been connected to the case in which a KwaMsane municipal councillor was attacked while at her house in KwaMbonambi last year.

It is alleged on 16 December at 1am, the 38-year-old councillor was asleep with her four-year-old son when she was attacked by three unknown suspects armed with firearms.

They allegedly fired several shots at her before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention while her child did not sustain any injuries.

The recovered firearms will undergo ballistic testing to establish if they were used in the commission of any other crime in the country.
