Ramaphosa seeks divine intervention

ANC Deputy President attends Shembe church service

DEPUTY President Cyril Ramaphosa has appealed to the Nazareth Baptist Church to pray for the ANC, the country and its leaders.

He was speaking during his visit to the church, led by His Holiness iNkosi uNyazi Lwezulu at Gibisila Temple, near eSikhaleni on Tuesday.

He said he was concerned about the dark cloud hanging over the country, and saw the need to seek divine intervention.

‘One of the reasons why I am here is because I value the role and the contribution of the church. By the way, churches have always been part of the struggle.’

Ramaphosa was quick to point out that he was not ‘here for the position, but to learn about the rich history of the church and ask for spiritual guidance’.

He said it was open secret that all was not well in the country.

‘You saw what happened at the May Day event in Bloemfontein, where the President was unable to deliver his address.’

Before ascending to the country’s highest office, the late former President Nelson Mandela visited the church, as did his successor Thabo Mbeki and President Jacob Zuma.
