Extreme (SPCA) makeover

Many animals are rescued by the SPCA - all require loving adoptive homes

A YOUNG puppy has beaten the odds and is well on the road to recovery after having been rescued by Richards Bay SPCA inspectors late last month.

Assumed to have been dumped, the four-month-old dog was found in a secure yard in Birdswood.

In a bad way, the vet diagnosed him with sarcoptic mange. He had a severe worm infestation, had many ticks and fleas and was very pale.

‘We dipped him weekly with Ectodex and he is on a strong de-worming protocol,’ said SPCA Inspector Wynand Strauss.

What a difference…
The puppy is responding well to treatment and will soon be ready for adoption

After the first week of treatment, the puppy developed sores and a slight temperature but both quickly subsided after further treatment with antibiotics and Ivomec.

The puppy without a name is doing very well and will soon be ready for adoption.

Anyone willing to adopt this puppy, or any of the other rescues at the Richards Bay SPCA, can do so by contacting the office on 035 7532086.
