50-year-old father sentenced to life in prison for rape of his 12-year-old foster daughter

AFTER living through a nightmare of being constantly raped and threatened to be killed by her foster father for years, a young girl finally took her power back on Wednesday.

The brave girl form uMkhobose Reserve in eSikhaleni finally took the first step towards a normal life when her 50-year-old rapist was sentenced to life in prison at eSikhawini Regional Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

During court proceedings, it was revealed the rapist father started his abuse in August 2011 when the victim was only 12-years-old.

It was discovered the sex pest father took advantage of the daughter when her foster mother was away from their home.

According to reports, the father would brutally rape her and then threaten to kill her if she reported the incident to anyone.

The cycle of abuse apparently continued until September 2012 when the girl courageously took the stand against her abuser.

After months of living in fear, the young victim reported the matter to the family and the police.

A case of rape was opened at eSikhawini Police Station, and soon transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for investigation.

The father was arrested and charged with rape. After the court heard all testimonies, the man was found guilty of rape and sentenced to life in prison.

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa expressed his satisfaction with the sentence , and said it must be serve as an example to all offenders. ‘I am happy the accused received a well-deserving sentence for his heinous acts. He abused the child who was placed under his care.

‘As a parent instead of protecting her with his life against any form of abuse, he became the abuser.

The victim trusted him and did not expect such treatment. Her bravery to report the accused is commended,’ said Langa.
