Five injured, two critical after cars collide after hitting cow

FIVE people were injured – two critically – when two vehicles collided on the N2 on Thursday.

According to reports, the accident occurred just south of the Nyoni turn-off when one of the vehicles swerved to avoid crashing into a stray cow wandering onto the highway.

Both drivers’ injuries were critical, while the three passengers sustained moderate injuries.

All were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Motorists are warned of the danger of stray cattle feeding on the road verges as winter approaches.

As the veld dies, the grass verges become increasingly more palatable to livestock and many cattle are untethered or unattended.

The days are also becoming shorter resulting in poor visibility at dawn and dusk.
