eSikhaleni family of 7 escapes giant flames unharmed

'God will help us' said brave eSikhaleni grandmother

‘GOD will not forsake me and my children.’

After she helplessly watched her house reduced to ashes during a fire, which destroyed all her belongings on Saturday night, a brave eSikhaleni grandmother has not lost her faith.

Even though the blaze ripped through her house and left her with nothing, Lindeni Jele (49) of Reserve 18 is grateful her family escaped the giant flames unharmed.

Jele, her three daughters and three young grandchildren miraculously managed to flee from their house after the fire broke out at 11pm.

According to Jele, the unexplained blaze started by the main bedroom’s window, and speedily engulfed the house within minutes.

‘We tried using buckets of water to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading, but it was too late. We had to save ourselves,’ said Jele.

Ashes is all that was left of Jele’s four-room house in eSikhaleni

‘We lost everything, our home, furniture, clothes and important documents such as Identity Documents, my children’s matric certificates and birth certificates,’

‘Everything I have worked for over the years – and all the struggles I faced have turned into ashes, but I know God will always be there to protect my family.’

After working hard as a vendor for years, Jele’s only dream was to provide her children with a decent home.

However, this unemployed grandmother had to watch with sorrow as all her sacrifices and hard work went up in smoke.

With support from her community, Jele and her family have found temporary shelter at a neighbour’s house, with some residents supporting her with food items and clothes.

With tears rolling down her cheeks, holding her burned out Bible she found in the ashes on Monday morning, Jele prayed for a miracle.

‘God is with us always and I believe He will see us through this difficult time. This is a test of our faith, and we will always praise Him. With time, He will provide us with what we need,’ said Jele.
