Empangeni Lifesaving Club lifeguards’ pull out their A game

The team participated in a variety of disciplines and walked away with numerous medals

EMPANGENI Lifesaving Club lifeguards based at Alkantstrand beach featured prominently in last weekend’s Lifesaving KZN Masters Championships held in Durban.

Thulani Nzama earned first place in the 2km beach run (30–34 age category), with Lucas Masinga and Nkosi Ngcobo finishing second and third respectively.

In the 35–39 age category, also for the 2km beach run, Lindani Dube walked away with gold, while Daniel Lubanyana won gold in the 40–44 category.

Dube also won the beach flags discipline in the 35–39 group, while Thulani Nzama, Ngcobo and Masinga finished second, third and fourth respectively in the 30–34 year category.

Daniel Lubanyana finished second in beach flags for his age category.

Nzama, Masinga,Ngcobo and David Ravenscroft finished among the top four in the beach sprint, while Dube and Daniel Lubanyana each finished second in their respective age categories.

The board race again saw Empangeni Lifesaving Club taking the top four spots, with Nzama first, Ravenscroft second, Masinga third and Ngcobo fourth.

Lubanyana finished third in his age category’s board race.

The iron man discipline saw Nzama claim gold in his age category, while Lubanyana finished second in his age group.

And in the single ski event, both Nzama and Lubanyana finished first in their respective age categories.

Not shy of first place podium finishes, Nzama again took gold in the surf swim’s 30–34 age category, while Masinga, Ravenscroft and Ngcobo finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Dube added to the team’s gold haul by winning his age category’s surf swim, while Lubanyana took silver in his.
