Body of missing drown victim recovered

Dhruval Dholakia's friends and family, along with police officers, were involved in an extensive search

POLICE have confirmed that the body of Dhruval Dholakia (28) was recovered this afternoon (Thursday) after it was spotted from Alkantstrand’s north pier.

It was floating between the two piers.

Recovery of the body occurred at about 2.30pm today (Thursday) and, at 3.30 family members had been called to identify Dhruval.

Police then transferred his body to the mortuary.

Apart from the police diving unit, NSRI and police officers, many of Dhruval’s family, friends and colleagues were involved in the search.

Dhruval, with his friends Rene Vereen (37) and Divesh Bhooshun were swimming in waist deep water at Alkantstrand’s Palm Beach on Tuesday evening when what has been described as a ‘freak current’ swept them out.
Divesh was able to get to shore and Rene was brought to shore by the NSRI.
Paramedics’ attempts to resuscitate Rene proved futile and he was pronounced deceased on scene.
