Empangeni Crossroads Teen Centre seeks help

Non-profit organisation which opened its doors in 2009 to cater for high school learners in the City of uMhlathuze

CROSSROADS Teen Centre in Empangeni is requesting any form of assistance from the public with regard to tutorial sessions.

The centre, a non-profit organisation which opened its doors in 2009 to cater for high school learners in the City of uMhlathuze, is in great demand from teenagers in Grades 8 to 12 who attend tutorial lessons.

‘We are here to help the learners in any way we can. We urgently need assistance from the public, either in the form of donations so that we can pay tutors or for people to volunteer their services as tutors.

‘We are in desperate need of tutors for subjects such as maths, physics, life sciences, economic management sciences, accounting and agriculture science,’ said Crossroads Centre Manager Dezi Laatz.

Crossroads opens its doors from 2pm to 5pm every weekday and has teenagers who sign up for tutorial sessions that the centre then arranges.

‘We currently have two tutors assisting us on days that they are available.

‘This is not enough as we have more than 30 pupils who visit our centre.

‘We would greatly appreciate people to volunteer their time,’ said Laatz.

According to Crossroads, it will cost the centre R16 800 to run tutorial sessions from now to the end of June.

‘With this funding we would be able to do a minimum of seven tutorial sessions a week with two sessions happening on Thursdays and Fridays as per the demand of the teenagers.

‘We provide services to teens in a safe and comfortable environment,’ said the centre’s Thabiso Mokoena.

Anyone interested in providing the centre with donations or support should contact them on 035 7725823 for further information.
