THOUSANDS of local schoolgirls are benefiting from the feminine hygiene products distribution programme Caring4Girls through the support of the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ), Umfolozi Casino Resort, Procter & Gamble and Ukhozi FM’s Thembeka Zondo.
To mark International Women’s Day on Wednesday, RBIDZ handed out 1 269 packages to four schools that will last each young learner for three months.
Donations are made at the end of every three months to supply them for the entire year and ensure they never need to miss a day of school owing to ‘that time of the month’.
Schools supported are Mcuthungu Primary in Empangeni, Lizwe High in Madlazini, Birdswood High in Richards Bay, Ikusaselthu High in Mtubatuba, Ntongande High in KwaMbonambi, Magqma High in Nkandla, Mavumengwane High in eShowe, Dlemudlemu High in Kwasokhulu, Mawombe High in Mtubatuba and Umbiya High in KwaMbonambi, with a combined total of 3 238 female learners.
RBIDZ also contributed R50 000 to the Imbumba Foundation that has been spearheading the campaign since 2012.
The programme also focuses on creating awareness through puberty education and dispels menstrual-related misconceptions.
It supports more than 350 000 girls nationally, with the goal of reaching two million by 2020.
