RECENT heavy downpours have exacerbated the pothole situation on the city’s roads, with motorists suffering serious wheel and tyre damage.
Hundreds of potholes have mushroomed on street surfaces, often hidden by accumulated puddles of water.
The most serious potential danger was reported on the John Ross Parkway between Woodchip Glade and the Foskor robots.
Water has scoured out deep sinkholes in two places, about 40 metres apart.
City engineers were on the scene on Monday morning and closed the inside lane to traffic.
Scores of huge trucks ride this road on a daily basis, with just a layer of tarmac between them and the eroded sections.
