INkosi tells iNduna to be ready for insults

INduna urged to remain humble

LEADERSHIP is no beauty contest, it comes with huge responsibilities and challenges.

Anyone occupying leadership position must brace himself for all sort of missiles that would be thrown at him.

This was the sentiment of the Head of Madlebe Traditional Authority, iNkosi Zenzo Zungu.

He was speaking during the inauguration of Bhekinkosi Mpanza, as iNduna of Ndabayakhe Reserve (e-14), held at Masakhane High School last week.

He urged iNduna Mpanza (56) to remain humble at all times and continue to become a people’s person.

‘We expect you to treat every community member equally. Your duty is to become the eyes and ears of iNkosi and the traditional council.

‘I must warn you though, that you are now taking a hot seat. So welcome to the real world.

‘Since taking over the reigns as Head of Madlebe Traditional Authority I have come under severe criticism, with some people hurling insults at me, saying all the bad things about me, just to tarnish my name, but I’m still standing.

‘I’m close to 20 years now as iNkosi of this area, but I don’t remember fining people cows or even asking you to buy me a car. I am a businessman.

‘I have about 200 people working for me, so I don’t know what else would I want from you.

‘Somehow people still make up stories about me, bad stories to further their agendas,’ he said.

Madlebe Traditional Authority Chairperson Philemon Mndaba said iziNduna play a vital role in community development and serve as a link between the community and traditional councils.

‘As we introduce iNduna Mpanza today, we expect you to work with him and show him the respect he deserves.

‘It will be wrong of you to undermine him by opting to refer your complaints directly to iNkosi, while iNduna is there for that.

‘IziNduna are also human beings, they make mistakes, please remember that,’ said Mndaba.
