FOUR people have died in a late Sunday afternoon head-on accident on the N2 near the Engen One-stop just south of Empangeni.
City Fire & Rescue Services said another person is in extremely critical condition, while a further occupant was less seriously injured.
It is reported three of the deceased are females and one is a child.
All the casualties were travelling in one vehicle.
Authorities are still on scene and motorists are urged to take the R102 via Felixton as N2 traffic is severely affected.
