According to ward 14 Councillor Sne Ntuli, some 15 families were being temporarily accommodated at the community hall.
City disaster management teams were soon on the scene, where water in some yards was well over a metre deep.
The SAPS Search & Rescue Dive Unit also arrived in case any boat rescues were required.
With rain expected to continue at least until Saturday, and with more water expected to add to the flooding, the unit will continue to monitor the area.
While there were no reports of injuries, plans were in place to provide victims with blankets, clothing and food.
