Support shavathon mania this weekend

Stalls will be set up outside House & Home and Woolworths at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre this Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm

THE annual CANSA Shavathon campaign kicks off this weekend, offering members of the public an opportunity to give back by raising funds for cancer patient care and support programmes through hair shaving or spraying.

Stalls will be set up outside House & Home and Woolworths at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre this Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm where supporters can add some colour to their hair, shave it all off and even make a hair donation for wigs.

This year CANSA celebrates its 14th Shavathon with events happening across shopping centres and at workplaces, corporates and service organisations until March.

CANSA uThungulu region’s Lizzy van Zyl said hosting a Shavathon event at workplaces, or places of study, community halls or home provides the chance to have a little fun, while bringing important awareness to a serious illness.

‘For a R50 donation (R25 for kids under 12), people can shave or spray hair and hair can also be donated if the ponytail measures 25cm or longer.

‘All hair donations (which meet all necessary requirements) will be used to make wigs for cancer patients, which are provided at no cost.

‘Shavathons will also be held at Stanger Spar on 25 February, Pongola on 4 March, Link Pharmacy Andrews Spar on 4 March and Mustangs Restaurant on 11 March.

If you would like to register as a Shavathon host, you can contact the Lizzy van Zyl on 079 1718159.
