Learners honoured at prize giving

More than 170 youngsters acknowledged at Bay school

MORE than 170 learners were given a well-deserved pat on the back for their hard work at the Hoërskool Richardsbaai prize giving held last week.

In honour of the young academics, sport champs, literature and arts stars, Principal Herman Muller said it is not only important to focus on minds, but also on hearts.

‘Here we must always try to create an atmosphere of caring for one another and that which makes us special.’

Guest speaker, ZO Managing Editor Ronelle Ramsamy also proffered some inspiring words of wisdom to the potential future leaders.

‘Zululand, KZN and South Africa do not only need academic achievers.

‘We need determined young people of strength, influence and destiny, who along with academic excellence are people of integrity.

‘Today we face a barrage of new challenges and society is looking to a new generation of leaders.

‘The baton has been passed and the time has come for a new breed of history makers in this new dispensation.

‘In whatever career we choose to pursue, we can all make a difference with the tools in our hands, in our homes, communities, offices and suburbs.

‘The birth of democracy has given you many opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to society.’
