Weekend bathing ban at Bay beaches

The shark nets are expected to be back in place on Monday

WITH the shark nets having been lifted as a precautionary measure on Thursday in anticipation of possible effects from tropical storm Dineo, bathing is not being allowed at Alkantstrand and Newark beaches in Richards Bay.

While surfers enjoyed small waves on a relatively flat sea this (Saturday) morning, frustrated bathers had to be content with just sticking their feet in the water – and this as the sun began to beat down mercilessly.

One couple reported having seen a shark near the backline at Newark beach on Friday morning and lifeguards were taking no chances.

The nets are expected to be back in place on Monday.
