ESHOWE Vispol members arrested a 24-year-old suspect on Sunday on charges of kidnapping and rape.
He was arrested in the Vuma area outside eShowe.
On Saturday at around midnight, the victim, aged 17 years, returned home with her mother after visiting her grandmother.
While they were preparing for bed, the suspect entered the house and grabbed the victim at gunpoint.
The mother tried to intervene, but was was assaulted by the suspect, who then dragged the victim to a nearby bush where he raped her.
The mother contacted the police and on their arrival, they were threatened by the suspect. They retaliated by shooting the suspect in his foot.
He was taken to the eShowe District Hospital where he was treated before being detained at the eShowe Police Station.
The suspect appeared in the eShowe Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was remanded to tomorrow (Friday).
