TWENTY-FIVE taxi drivers from various associations in the region received valuable industry knowledge at a basic skills workshop at the Empangeni Country Club on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This initiative was spearheaded by the South African National Taxi Council in KZN (Santaco), with the purpose of educating drivers about their business.
The workshop included intense training on taxi commission rules, customer service, commuter care, communication skills, defensive driving and safety and health issues.
‘This is part of the provincial course for drivers and operators. We want to educate everyone in the industry and give them the tools which will make them understand this business,’ said Santaco KZN Training Manager Mpume Msomi.
‘It is our responsibility to educate drivers about the importance of customer care and road safety.
‘Working with the Department of Transport and our organisation Hlokomela, we aim to continue educating our drivers and touching on a variety of issues such as not driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol,’ she said.
