Man stabbed in filling station fight

Man stabbed, beaten after row erupts at Richards Bay filling station

A RICHARDS BAY man is lucky to be alive after he was stabbed and beaten by a group of men at a filling station.

While it is unclear exactly what led to the row and the subsequent brawl, the ZO believes the following took place:

At around 1.30am on Saturday, a group of three friends, the victim and a male and female, pulled up to the shop at the petrol station.

Shortly after they arrived, a Golf GTI with a Richards Bay registration number with five male occupants stopped in the parking bay next to them.

The passenger of the GTI then allegedly dinged the victims’ door with his door, and the man stepped out to inspect the damage.

It is believed words were exchanged and a fight broke out, leaving the victim stabbed in the leg and back, as well as with several heavy bruises believed to have been inflicted by a car jack.

The victim’s male friend had removed their female companion from the immediate vicinity as the fight erupted and it is unclear if he came to his comrade’s aid or escaped unscathed.

The GTI crew fled the scene within minutes, leaving the victim bleeding on the ground.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and had to be taken to hospital for further treatment.

While the victim’s name is known to the Zululand Observer, he cannot be named as repeated attempts to contact him this week failed.

By Tuesday morning however, Richards Bay police had allegedly still not visited the scene of the crime.

A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.
