Man stabs girlfriend in broad daylight at Richards Bay Taxi Rank

A MAN who stabbed his ex-girlfriend at her workplace at the Richards Bay Taxi Rank on Wednesday morning, has died after he was himself attacked by an angry mob and severely beaten.

According to witnesses at the scene, the incident unfolded at around 11am when the boyfriend, Khosi Khumalo (30), visited the woman at the clothing stall where she was employed at the entrance of the Bay Plaza.

They were seated and having a conversation when the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed her three times in the chest and once in her back before fleeing the scene.

Vendors nearby gave chase and apprehended Khumalo near Boxer Store and brought him back to the crime scene, where he was attacked by an angry crowd.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to hospital, while the man was treated at the scene before being transferred for further treatment, where police say he later succumbed to his injuries.

‘Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at the Richards Bay police station,’ said SAPS spokeswoman, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele.
